Exodus 29:1 "And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto Me in the priest's office: Take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish,"

Exodus 29:2 "And unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of wheaten flour shalt thou make them."

Exodus 29:3 "And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams."

Exodus 29:4 "And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water."

Exodus 29:5 "And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the epod, and breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod:"

God is instructing Moses to bring Aaron and his sons to the tabernacle and place these priestly garments on them, and consecrate them in their position as the priests of Israel, all the tribes. "Consecrate" means to set them in a permanent priestly position, and God is relating to us that this was to be done and passed on from father to son through all generations.

Exodus 29:6 "And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head and put the holy crown upon the mitre."

Exodus 29:7 "Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head, and anoint him."

Aaron was set aside or anointed to be the high priest, to wear the breastplate of precious stones representing all the tribes, wearing the mitre, and the holy crown of the high priest.

Exodus 29:8 "And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them."

Exodus 29:9 "And thou shalt gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the bonnets on them: and the priest's office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons."

Did you catch that? This priest's position or office "shall be theirs for a perpetual statute," it never comes to an end. So what are the Kenites doing in I Chronicles 2:55 assuming the role as these priests? "And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez [Jerusalem]; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab."

Some eight hundred years later, when the house of Judah was coming out of bondage in Babylon, Ezra tells us that there wasn't one of the Levites present on the return trip back to reestablish the temple worship. Ezra 8:15 "And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the People, and of priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi." God told Moses that "the priest's office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute;" and we see that there was not one Levitical priest from the lineage of Aaron going back to set up the temple worship. Is it any wonder that the priest and Pharisees of Jesus day wanted to murder Him from the start of His ministry. The Kenites, Satan's children had replaced the Word of God with their traditions and Jesus was letting the people know what the God's Word said. The Kenites did not like that.

Exodus 29:10 "And thou shalt cause a bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock."

Exodus 29:11 "And thou shalt kill the bullock before the Lord, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation."

Exodus 29:12 "And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar."

Exodus 29:13 "And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar."

Exodus 29:14 "But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering."

The "sin offering" is called "the Chattath," coming from "chat'a", and it means to miss the mark by means of sins of commission. Not measuring up to the standard that God has set for us. This was the sin offering that Aaron and his sons did before they took the office of priest.

Exodus 29:15 "Thou shalt also take one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram."

Exodus 29:16 "And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon upon the altar."

Exodus 29:17 "And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head."

Exodus 29:18 "And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the Lord: it is a sweet savour, and offering made by fire unto the Lord."

This burnt offering takes the parts that God commanded to be burnt, and those parts are consumed on the altar completely. This is called the "Olah", meaning "to cause to ascend."

Exodus 29:19 "And thou shalt take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram."

Exodus 29:20 "Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about."

This is calling our attention to those parts touched by the atoning blood of this ram that was killed. Then this is a type of Christ, that would come much later, and it was to anoint and set us apart on his holy mount. Notice that each one of these priest, sons of Aaron would be singled out individually for the anointing and commission to their office. Aaron was the type of Christ, anointed, and Paul talks about this in 2 Peter 1:16 - 18.

2 Peter 1:16 "For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty."

The term "cunning devised fables", are the traditions of men, and their doctrine that goes against the Word of God. Peter is telling us that he was at the mount of transfiguration when Jesus allowed him to witness the full Majesty of Who Jesus is. This event took place and was recorded in Matthew 17:1 - 9, where Jesus appeared with Moses and Elias talking with Him. After the event took place Peter was off in many direction telling Jesus exactly how He was going to establish three monuments because of what he had seen. However Jesus told Peter to stop talking nonsense. Jesus knew that Peter was of the flesh in his thoughts, and He knew how Peter and the other two would react in the presence of His Almighty Father. Then Jesus said to the three.

Matthew 17:9 "And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, "Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead."

It was time for Peter, James and John to become ready to pay attention to Jesus' instruction, for Christ's crucifixion was not far away. Sure Peter was ready to draw his sword for the life of Christ, but now he had the insight that the other apostles did not have at this time. Peter, James and John now knew absolutely that Jesus was going to the cross, and be killed. "Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead." You have to die before you can be raised from the dead.

2 Peter 1:17 "For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased".

Peter is telling us that he personally witnessed the honor and glory that our Heavenly Father gave to His Son, Jesus the Christ, the Anointed one. It was Almighty God that pointed this out to these apostles so there could be no mistake that Jesus truly is the Son of God, the Savior of all mankind.

2 Peter 1:18 "And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount."

These three apostles heard and witnessed this take place up on the holy mount. When Jesus went to the cross the blood of our Lord would fulfill and end the need for any animal sacrifice, for it would become a covering for sin for all those that would believe and repent in Jesus name. He would be our advocate and go between, between ourselves and the Heavenly Father. However at this time the person that would approach the Father in man's behalf would be the high priest, Aaron, and from this time on, his sons and sons' sons.

Exodus 29:21 "And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garment, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him."

God is allowing us to see that Aaron and His sons were to be the anointed ones, sanctified, and set apart for the purpose of making these sacrifices that God required; and God is letting mankind know that these are His appointed ones until the coming of His Son, Jesus the Christ.

Exodus 29:22 "Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of consecration:"

The ram of consecration had to be a perfect sacrifice, with no defects. Yet this still was not completely pleasing to the Father. For the only true acceptable sacrifice would be His only Begotten Son, Jesus the Christ. I Peter 2:21, 22 "For even hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps:" [21] "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth:" [22] This sacrificial ram was a temporary sacrifice for sin. But only Jesus Christ could be the perfect sacrifice.

Exodus 29:23 "And one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before the Lord:"

Exodus 29:24 "and thou shalt put all in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons; and shalt wave them for a wave offering before the Lord."

Exodus 29:25 "And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the Lord: it is an offering made by fire before the Lord."

Exodus 29:26 "And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of Aaron's consecration, and wave it for a wave offering before the Lord: and it shall be thy part."

Exodus 29:27 "And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the should of the heave offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of the consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons:"

Exodus 29:28 "And it shall be Aaron's and his sons' by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an heave offering: and it shall be an heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the Lord."

The "peace offerings" also called "Shelem" conveys the idea of peace on the grounds of perfection of compensation, or recompense. Thus it connects us with the thought of rendering payment of vows or praises because of the peace you have already enjoyed. Jesus Christ is our peace offering, for when we believe in Him and by faith confess our sins in His name, Father gives us the peace of mind to stable our lives. The peace offering is Eucharistic rather than propitiatory.

I Peter 2:23 "Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him That judgeth righteously:"

I Peter 2:24 "Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes ye were healed."

Jesus Christ became all these blood offerings and sacrifices once and for all times.

Exodus 29:29 "And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons' after him, to be anointed therein, and to be consecrated in them."

Exodus 29:30 "And that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days, when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congregation to minister in the holy place."

Exodus 29:31 "And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration, and seethe his flesh in the holy place."

Exodus 29:32 "And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation."

Exodus 29:33 "And they shall eat those things where with the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy."

This atonement is the first occurrence of the English word, and from the Hebrew text it is "kaphar", meaning "to cover". Though the blood of rams was a covering for one year temporarily covering sin; but the blood of Christ was for one and all times.

Exodus 29:34 "And if ought of the flesh of the consecrations, or of the bread, remain unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

Exodus 29:35 "And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his sons, according to all things which I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them."

Exodus 29:36 "And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sins offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it."

Exodus 29:37 "Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and it shall be an altar most holy: whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy."

Exodus 29:38 "Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually."

Exodus 29:39 "The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even:"

Lets see what the New Testament says about this.

Hebrews 9:6 "Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God."

When these ordained instructions of God were given to the priests, they were carried out in their liturgical duties. Remember that these duties were only a shadow of what would come later. the duties of priests of the Old Testament was a forerunner of What Christ would be to us, and what Christians are suppose to do.

Hebrews 9:7 "But into the second went the high priest alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the errors of the people:"

All of the priests could enter through the first vail, but only the High priest, at this time Aaron, could enter through that second vail into the Holy of holies. The High priest first had to make sacrifices for himself, before he could make the sacrifices for the people. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. If the blood sacrifice was not accepted by God, then the High priest would be struck dead, and would not come back out of the Holy of holies. In Old Testament times, this event was the most sacred event of the year, and it happened just once a year. However there were also sacrifices daily both in the morning and evening.

Remember we are comparing the old temple and tabernacle with the new Temple or tabernacle, which is Jesus Christ, and the many membered body of Christ. We are comparing how the Old Covenant, or Testament was a shadow or type of the New Covenant that was established by the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus became the bread of life in the New Covenant that was the manna of the Ark of the Covenant in the Old Covenant.

Hebrews 9:8 "The Holy Ghost [Spirit] this signifying, that the way into the Holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:"

The time of the appearance of the Holy Spirit of God was not available until after that vail to the Holy of holies had been torn in two, and the sacrifice of Christ had been completed. So what this verse is stating in an analogy is that when a bull was slaughtered and the blood had been shed, that blood was for that time only and that blood was placed on the altar. It became a temporary fix for that year only.

Hebrews 9:9 "Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience:"

There is no way that any high priest could go before the altar of God and offer an offering of gifts or blood sacrifices to God, which would clear the conscience of any person. Only Christ could do that, and that is what He did during those three days in the grave. Jesus' sacrifice was given once for all times, while all other sacrifices in the old Testament required an annual trip to the Temple."

Hebrews 9:10 "Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of reformation.

Though these priests and high priest went through all these washings, sacrifices of meats and drinks, and followed all the ordinances of animal sacrifice every year, and daily, it still was not enough. Men liked to keep on adding their traditions to God's Word, for it made them feel more religious in their ceremony rituals. Jesus told us in Colossians 2:16 "Let no man judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days." Why? "Which are a shadow of things to come but the body is of Christ." Review the rest of the chapter of Colossians 2.

Hebrews 9:11 "But Christ being come an High Priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building [the tabernacle]:"

Everything that man's hand touches sooner or later falls apart. However this new tabernacle that Christ builds, the many membered body of Christ, was not built with man's hands.

Hebrews 9:12 "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the Holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

The blood of Christ ended the use of that Holy of Holies, the mercy seat, and all the offerings and sacrifices that were required under the law.

Exodus 29:40 "And with the one lamb a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil; and the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering."

Exodus 29:41 "And the other lamb thou shalt offer at even, and shalt do thereto according to the meat offering of the morning, and according to the drink offering thereof, for a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the Lord."

Exodus 29:42 "This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord: where I will meet you to speak there unto thee."

Exodus 29:43 "And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by My glory."

Exodus 29:44 "And I will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to Me in the priest's office."

Exodus 29:45 "And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God."

Exodus 29:46 "And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, That brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them: I am the Lord their God."

God established a standard and set His priests in place in this chapter, and His people would have to approach him in this manner. However when our Lord Jesus went to the cross, that vail to the Holy of holies was rent in two, and the way was made for us to approach God in and through the blood of Christ. That is why we pray in Jesus name, for it shows our belief in Christ and His sacrifice, as well as all the things of His Word that tell us how Jesus was slain, and by whom.

Hebrews 9:13 "For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:"

Paul is telling us that if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of heifers did the job of purifying our souls, then there would be no need of Christ going to the cross. But it wasn't good enough. You don't need to shine the brass in the temple, or take part in any ritual for the salvation of your soul, but salvation comes only by the blood of Christ, and through the working of the Holy Spirit of God.

Hebrews 9:14 "How much more shall the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"

The eternal Spirit is the Holy Spirit. The offering that was given on our behalf is the blood of Christ. You purge your conscience for all of your dead works and sins so you can serve the Living God.

Hebrews 9:15 "And for this cause He is the Mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."

It was for the cause of the sacrifice of Christ that Jesus Christ became our Mediator of the New Testament. Christ's death fulfilled the requirements of the Old Testament blood ordinances. If we the elect and saved of God are to receive the promises of our eternal inheritance, then the One that named us in His Testament must die first. When Christ died on the cross then every part of that New Testament, which is the Will of God, can be claimed exactly as the inheritance of a will can be claimed upon that person's death.

Hebrews 9:16 "For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator."

When Jesus was taken off the cross dead, and placed in the tomb, the death of the testator was complete, then all parts of His Will and testament became yours to claim personally when you are in that inheritance, and under the blood of Christ.
