Habakkuk

Chapter 3

"The Prayer of Habakkuk"

This Bible Study is written by Roger Christopherson, and made available with written permission by http://www.theseason.org

You are going to hear a prayer from Habakkuk, concerning how God's wrath will affect the world.

Habakkuk 3:1 "A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth."

"Shigionoth" in the Hebrew text means, "a prayer of crying aloud; from the heart". This type of prayer also appears in Psalm 7. It is important to this chapter.

Habakkuk 3:2 "O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy."

"Afraid" is better translated, "in awe", for Habakkuk was "in awe" after God gave him this message. His prayer is that God will renew [revive] a work in him. The time Habakkuk's message is directed to is the same actual time frame that Daniel's message of Daniel 9 talks about. It is aimed at "in the midst of the week". This is the time Antichrist is on earth ruling, presenting himself to the world as the true Christ. Satan is that little horn of Daniel 9:27 that commits the "abomination of desolation", by declaring himself to be God.

Habakkuk 3:3 "God came from te'-man, and the Holy One from mount Par'-an. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise."

"Selah" is given to the reader or singer, as a direction for them to stop, or pause; and think on what is to be said. This passage is connecting the coming of Jesus Christ, with all His glory will He will receive, as on Mount Sinai. When you are a child of God, then the wrath of God means rewards to you as His child.

God's wrath is going to come, yet the earth will be full of His praise. Remember that on the first day of the Millennium every knee will bow to Jesus Christ; yet on this day also, will God's wrath be poured out upon the earth.

Habakkuk 3:4 "And his brightness was as the light; he had horns [rays] coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power."

These "horns" in the Hebrew text, signify "power". What it is saying, is that there were "two rays of light" coming from his hand. In Revelation 11 we are told about these two rays of light. They were the two witnesses who stood against the Antichrist [Satan], during his short reign on this earth. This time is yet to come, however it shall happen in our generation prior to our Lord's return at the seventh trumpet.

These two witnesses have their power that will come from the hand of Jesus Christ. When these two witnesses are smitten dead, and the world watches and celebrates, as their bodies lay in the "streets" [a large arena] in Jerusalem; all those who know God's Word will know that this marks the end to this earth age. For in three and one half days, life comes back into the bodies of the witnesses, and they arise immediately into the heavens, as the world watches it all happen. Then, on that day, the seventh trumpet shall sound, and the Lord Jesus Christ will return victorious.

Habakkuk 3:5 "Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals [fiery bolts] went forth at his feet."

As Jesus Christ goes forward to help His people, the enemy [the Antichrist, his system and those who followed him] are going to burn their feet from the hot coals that are present. These "hot coals" are "spiritual coals" and these coals will not effect God's elect [all those sealed of God in their minds] one bit. It will be similar to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the fiery furnace, as recorded in Daniel 3.

Habakkuk 3:6 "He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting."

Our Heavenly Father is standing and watching everything that is happening on earth, through the end of this earth age. The books and records are kept on each of us, as to our thoughts, words and deeds. Then God is going to break up these nations, and tie them up into one neat package, and we will call it the "new world order".

God will form new everlasting nations of all the ethnos, and the nation and peoples of the olden times will be reformed, into their old tribal, or family units. Then every person, and tribe, and nation will bow their knees to our Lord Jesus Christ, and He shall reign over His kingdom in this new age. [Millennium}.

Habakkuk 3:7 "I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble."

"Cushan" in the Hebrew means "blackness", while "Midian" here has a meaning of "strife". So now lets consider what this verse is saying.

I saw the tents of darkness, Satan's control in affliction: And the hanging things ["curtains"] of the land of strife did tremble. Why would this be? All those who took part with Satan [the Antichrist] are afraid, because God is angry. There is no place to hide from God.

Habakkuk 3:8 "Was the Lord displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?"

The "horses" are in reference with "power", while the "chariots" deal with "warfare". "Salvation" in this text is Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The key to understanding the meaning of this verse, comes from God's answer to Habakkuk in verse 2:14. The waters and rivers are knowledge that covers the peoples of the earth.

These "rivers" are God's truths being brought forth, when all truth is made known in the Millennium kingdom of Jesus Christ. These "chariots of salvation" are of God, not to kill but to show mercy and instruct. God's Word will change many things then.

Habakkuk 3:9 "Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers."

God, and His Son Jesus Christ, are showing you their gentle side. Those souls in this generation that in ignorance fall to Satan's deception; though grace is not extended to them, mercy and instruction are. They will be instructed, and disciplined for one thousand years, and then tested again for a brief season. All truth will be made known then, thank God, for some are blinded now, because they wouldn't be able to handle it. This will be after God makes all things right, and removes Satan, and his fallen angels. Remember that grace is offered through faith, and faith is accepting something when it cannot be seen. It is the acceptance of the truths of God's Word, and having the confidence to act on those truths just because the Word stated it.

The "Selah" means for us to "pause" and think on these things that have just been said. This second Selah is to connect the remarkable parenthetic statement with the continuation of the details of Israel's deliverance. This statement interrupts the details, and might be overlooked had we not stopped to think on what has just been said. Some critics have said that the text is corrupt here, but that is not so according to the Massoretic text. The oaths are the promises that God swore to the forefather of all the tribes of Israel, when they were still unborn, and in the loins of the patriarchs.

Habakkuk 3:10 "The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high."

In other words, the whole world will give way to Jesus Christ, and when the world opens their minds to Him, their will be a lot of changing in lives and families. Again, this is in the Millennium, when all flesh is gone, and we are in our incorruptible bodies and understand all Scripture clearly.

Habakkuk 3:11 "The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear."

The "sun and moon" that stood still in Joshua's day, obeyed the power of God. When the "glittering of God's spear" [sword] shines, or comes forth; absolutely nothing can stand in God's way. The sword coming from God is the truth of His holy Word, and at the sound of His voice, the universe is formed.

Habakkuk 3:12 "Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen [nations] in anger."

The "heathen" are all people who do not love the Lord Jesus Christ. God is pouring His indignation out upon the world, and it will not hurt one of God's children. God's indignation is aimed at Satan, and those who in full knowledge committed themselves to Satan and His system in these latter days.

In this indignation, Satan will go to the pit, while those people, and the fallen angels are removed to the abyss, or a set aside place waiting for destruction. There will be no hope for these souls.

Habakkuk 3:13 "Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah."

God's "chariots of salvation" will remove all those demons of temptation, those who make God's children down right miserable. God is going to get rid of all idols, and everything used in the form of worship, and even the foundation which these heathen religions stand upon. This old earth is in for quite a shaking, to even destroy the foundations of churches houses [synagogues of Satan], temples, mosques, shrines, and all sorts of things used in idolatry.

Remember, even the temple in Jerusalem will be left as a bare rock, without one stone piled upon another. Jesus said in Mark 13:2; "...there shall not be one stone standing upon another, that shall not be throne down." This is Jesus Christ's answer to what it would be like at His return. Jesus Christ shall return and make His salvation complete. All evil and things of Satan are removed, and all things and places of idolatry will totally lose their identity. "Selah", Stop and think on these things. So this third Selah connects this final overthrow and its magnitude, when contrasted with the enemy's previous proud boasting and exaltation from verse fourteen.

Habakkuk 3:14 "Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly."

This is in reference to Satan's children [offspring through Cain], the Kenites, who will be ruling the world [with their father Satan] at Jesus Christ's return. The "staves" are his weapons, while "strike through", means "to pierce" in the Hebrew text. This term "his villages", is correctly translated to, "his leaders". These leaders will take their own weapons, and beat themselves over their own heads with them. God will cause great confusion in their minds as they respond to that confusion.

As we see this happening today, this band of Kenites are coming upon the entire earth [all nations], and with such force that no one can stand against them or their progress of spiritual destruction. Remember this is a spiritual destruction. As the "United Nations" and each of its godless agencies move to find victory for their one world system, that order will have in fact "devoured the poor" through deception and lies. Take a close look at the United Nations, and ask yourself; How are they getting control of everything?

Their agenda is right on schedule, and God's people are falling over themselves to be counted amongst the wicked. At the "head" of this system are the "Kenites", which are international bankers, Industrialists, politicians who owe commitment only to "Lucifer" their true lineage father. By hiding their identity to Satan and Cain [which is the "parable of the fig tree"], they can move in secret. Through their constant lies and deceptions about their family ties and controls, the things they do remain hidden.

Today their control of the world is being achieved by and through their control of the four hidden dynasties; these are Education, Economics [banking, media, industry, and commerce, and trade], Politics, and Religion. A plan called "Iron Mountain I and II, set the schedule of total domination of our nation to accept one worldism, and as of today they are right on schedule.

Their "whirlwind to scatter" is almost complete. However, the Elect of God can also rejoice, for that means God is right on course with His plan also. Their days are numbered.

Habakkuk 3:15 Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters."

They claimed they were going to rule the world, and they were successful in bringing about the one worldism we see today.

Habakkuk 3:16 "When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops."

"Rottenness" in the Syriac is "restlessness." In this day of trouble that is upon us, this is a true description of many Christians who see this godless system coming down upon us. The Kenites have always tried to overwhelm God's people, even back in the days of Cain and Abel. It is no different. God allows their tricks and lies, because they are used of God to correct His children. This is why it is important to know the "parable of the Fig Tree", and who the Kenites are. Then you can better understand God's plan, and just what you can count on.

When that time of trouble comes, it is not pointed at God's people, but at his enemies. Rest in the Lord God, and His promises for that is our faith.

Habakkuk 3:17 "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:"

Why is this? Because Satan and his one world system will die. When Christ walked into the temple to drive out the money changers, he stopped and cursed the fig tree. Then He went to clean out His Father"s house of those Kenites in charge. This will happen again.

In Matthew 24:32-35, Jesus warned us that we must learn the Parable of the Fig Tree, for it denotes a specific generation. You and I are living in that generation. To be ignorant of the "parable" is to place yourself into the hands of these Kenites. This tribe of Satanic people are ruthless, who are engaged in plotting in their methods of subverting the Christian community. Friend, it's time to pick up the sword of the Lord [God's Word], and prepare for the spiritual battle that is going to enslave the entire world.

With your gospel armor on [Ephesians 6:10-20], there is no fear, for our God will protect us and keep us from the fiery spiritual darts of Satan and his realm. Our whole purpose on earth is to worship God, and serve Him.

Habakkuk 3:18 "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation."

Our mission in life is to rejoice and praise Father God, and our Lord Jesus Christ in everything we have and whatever we do. God is going to take this crazy mixed up world and make it right for all His children. In this we have much to be thankful for.

Habakkuk 3:19 "The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments."

When you are down and worn out God will give you the strength to endure. God will give you the strength to get through your tasks. "Stringed instrument" translated from the Hebrew text here, is "neginoth"; and it is referring to the "smittings of Yahveh". Even though God has to correct us at times, rejoice; for we needed it and probably deserved it.

Keep working and studying God's Word, for the Lord, so in that time spoken of in Acts 2, and Joel 28-31, we can be used of God, by the Holy Spirit. Our final generation started May 15, 1948, and it is coming shortly to the close. This is when the tiny nation of "Israel", in Palestine was established, through the United Nations, and that is when both the good and bad figs of the parable, returned. Jesus said in Matthew 24:34; "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled," Friend, we are that generation, the the things to be fulfilled are all the seals, the woes and the Trumpets.

This is not the time to fool around playing church, for it's time to learn what is important, so we will not fall prey to the Antichrist, and his Kenites. Our starting point is to repent of all things unclean, and sins against God, and allow Him to make us whole spiritually. Our nation is bankrupt both financially, and spiritually, and there is not much time left, to where all truth will be taken from the earth [the fifth trumpet].

Habakkuk's prayer is that he be found worthy to be a watchman for the Lord, and that God would use him to alert us living in this last generation. We now have been warned by this prophet of God, and it is our turn to be the watchman of that wall, and sound the alarm for our family, friends, and those around us.
