Jeremiah Chapter 46

"Prophecies Addressed to Gentiles."

This Bible Study is written by Roger Christopherson, and it's transcription/ location is provided by http://www.theseason.org

These are the events that concern the Gentile nations. Again to remind you that what these nations do here is a type of what the Gentile nations will do in the time of the end. When we take account of the current events from 1948, and look to the future just a little bit we will see these nations, and see that God's prophecies are coming to pass. So as we see the geographic locations of these nations, we will be told exactly what we can expect to see in our life time.

Jeremiah 46:1 "The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;"

There is a harsh translation here, and it should read, "came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Gentile nations."

Jeremiah 46:2 "Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah."

This "against" carries over to this verse. Concerning Egypt and concerning the army of the king of Egypt. This is concerning the king of Egypt that was "lame", which is the meaning of "necho". This chapter is about the king of Egypt both in an historical sense, and as a type in prophetic sense to the ruler of Egypt in the latter days.

Remember that Egypt was promised by God that it would always be a base nation. It always has been a nation from the most ancient days, and is the oldest nations in the world that has never ceased in existence. That was God's promise to the Pharaoh in Ezekiel 29:14 "And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom."

Jeremiah 46:3 "Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle."

God is telling the Pharaoh of Egypt to get ready for battle because they are about to have war. Earlier in the book of Jeremiah we discussed the three sieges of Jerusalem before its fall, now let your mind go back to the three sieges of Jerusalem in our time, in the three wars of the Arab nations and Israel. Think about what has taken place already, and remember it is time to prepare ourselves.

Remember the battle that the king of Babylon of the book of Revelation brings is a spiritual battle, and the forces of that king are the children of his offspring Cain. They are the "Kenites", the people represented by the basket of bad, or naughty figs that we read about in Jeremiah 24:1-5, that were brought back to Jerusalem, to set up the way for the coming of the king of Babylon, who in these end times is Satan the Antichrist. They are there now, and the sieges have already taken place.

Jeremiah 46:4 "Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines."

God is telling Pharaoh to arm yourself, get on the protection necessary for battle.

Jeremiah 46:5 "Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back, and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the Lord."

It should be obvious, that this One World, "New World Order" is in place, and not just in a spiritual sense for the nation of Israel was formed under a charter agreement of the United Nations. However, from the prophecies of the Book of Revelation, we are now far enough along in the events of the latter days that you should be able to see these events as prophecies.

The skirmishes that have already taken place have happened since the "fig tree" was set in place. That setting of the fig tree took place when Israel became a nation in May, 1948.

Jeremiah 46:6 "Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates."

"The river Euphrates" is a phrase in the Hebrew that sets the boundary between Israel and Babylon. "Babylon" in the futuristic sense being the seat or temple of the false Jesus, or also called Antichrist.

There are many things concerning the king of the north, and the king of the south. In ancient times they were the Seleucid kingdom of Syria and Iraq area, and the Ptolemy Sotto kingdom which was located in Egypt. It is interesting that in the battle between Iraq, and Iran, Egypt had more men fighting in the battle to assist Iraq then any other nation. They were far north from their home in Egypt, and then think also of the fall of Iran, and the fleeing of the Shaw of Iran to our nation, and to ultimately reside in the home of the king of Egypt, Nassar, where he finally died of cancer.

This battle was like a wake up call to the world, of this prophecy, and the struggles that would continue to take place between Egypt and the northern kingdoms.

Jeremiah 46:7 "Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?"

Who is this that comes up and disturbs the Nile. Remember that Russia paid and did the work to disturb the Nile, and build the great Aswan Damn. When this happened, many things were changed within Egypt. It stopped the annual flooding of the Nile in lower Egypt.

Jeremiah 46:8 "Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, `I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.' "

Remember who it was that plotted to move against Israel, with the help of those that disturbed the Nile [Russia]? Nassar went to the rest of the Arab nation's and planned an attack that would destroy the city of Jerusalem, and the Jews, both the offspring of Judah, and the Kenites, the bad figs that had mixed with them.

Very shortly, the other king of Babylon, Satan the Antichrist will also be coming with a flood of lies, to overflow the city and the inhabitants of it. That flood would cover all the world and not just Egypt.

Jeremiah 46:9 "Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle the bend the bow."

The Ethiopians are the ones that will go to battle for money, and the Libyans were the Africans. The area of Lydia is in Syria, and southern Turkey today, and it is from here that the bow will send their arrows. Stop and look around as to what is taking place today.

Jeremiah 46:10 "For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of His adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates."

Friend, there is only one "day of vengeance" referred to in the Bible, and that is the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. This will happen when all the prophecies in God's Word have taken place, and those prophecies will happen exactly as they are written. Just before the "Lord's day" the deadly wound would come, and it is to one of the heads of beast, which is a multinational governmental body. This governmental body acts as one government however it is divided up into ten parts with then leaders controlling each of the parts.

From this body, all nations will receive their direction and rule of order. We see from Revelation that this system will receive a deadly wound, but it take the Antichrist to heal that deadly wound, and bring that system under its control.

Revelation 13:1 "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up our to the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy." The sea is the nations of the world under a one world government and the beast that rises out of it is Is the United Nations, on the seven continents, with its ten agencies of power.

Revelation 13:2 "And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority." Satan will give power to this system, and it will worship him in return.

Revelation 13:3 "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." There are two heads to this beast, one is political and the other religious. The political beast that now exists will stop being a governmental power, because the nations will withdraw from it, then Satan will arrive as the messiah, the fake christ, Antichrist, and convince the world to give power back to the beast, only now it will be in religious form.

Then all the world will wonder after the beast, which will honor Satan as the messiah, only he is nothing but a fake.

Revelation 13:4 "And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, "Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" Friend, every soul on the face of the earth, except God's elect will worship Satan, thinking he is the Christ, and they will respect the religious system that Satan has set up to carry out his rule.

Revelation 13:5 "And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months." God will give Satan the power and authority to do what he will do, and the blasphemies that are committed are when he declares himself to be God, and the and the people of the world believe him. Thank God this 42 months has been shortened for the elect of God's sake to five months, as recorded in Revelation 9:5, 10.

So from this knowledge the elect of God are to watch Jerusalem to find out the development of the one World system, and when the political wound will come. We should watch the Euphrates to see where the start of the lighting that causes the blow of the wound will originate. The statement in this paragraph is a personal thought, and is not quoted from the scriptures.

Jeremiah 46:11 "Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured."

Daniel 11 takes off on this, in his discussion of the king of the north [Syria, and Arab], and the king of the south [Egypt including Arabia].

This area of Gilead was noted for a balm that would heal most anything. God is saying here that you can use all the medicine that you want to, but there is never going to be peace in this area, or region.

The subject here is Egypt, and now spread over into all parts of the middle east. Every one that knew the King of Egypt, Anwar Sadat, called him the king of peace. He was the one that was suppose to bring this healing balm to the region and Egypt, but there is still no peace.

"O virgin daughter" is in reference to a religion. Every conflict going on today is a war of one religious group against another. God is saying that you can try all you want to, there is not going to any peace, regardless what medicines you take there will not be any balm or peace.

Jeremiah 46:12 "The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together."

If you look at the types in the conflicts that have gone on since 1948, you see over and over that these same enemies have fought against each other, and there hasn't been one shade of peace. They sign an agreement, and immediately it is broken with blood shed. They are going to each others capitals seeking peace, with one compromise after another, but nothing will work until God's appointed time, that the false Christ comes, and the testing of all mankind begins.

There is only one peace that is possible that will be lasting will come at the close of this dispensation of time. It will come when Jesus Christ comes at the sounding of the last trumped, when He sets up His Millennium kingdom. The reason we are discussing current events with this, is to stir your memory so you can see that it is coming to pass right before our eyes.

Jeremiah 46:13 "The word that the Lord spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt."

We know why the king of Babylon will come to smite Egypt, because of the last three chapters. It was because of the killing of Gedaliah, and the people of Judah leaving the land of Judaea, when the orders were to stay in Bethlehem. These people ran to Egypt for protection, rather then believe on God, and the the peace that was offered them. God said that it would happen if they ran off to Egypt, and they called Jeremiah a liar for speaking what God told him to say. So this is history of an event, and God will use this historical event to show us how that His word will come to pass. God always keeps His word.

Jeremiah 46:14 "Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, `Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.' "

There has been three sieges, but the one from verse ten has not come yet. You can count on it coming to pass. Friend, there will be a false peace that will bring all nations into the one would system, and this will be very shortly. There has been a time when every nation on earth banded together to fight one common enemy, and that was in the gulf war. It will happen again when the will band together for peace in a world wide alliance.

Jeremiah 46:15 "Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the Lord did drive them."

It doesn't matter how strong a military force is, when God's prophecy says that a certain thing is going to happen, man does not have the power to stop the Word of God.

Jeremiah 46:16 "He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword."

War after war has come and gone, and after each battle they return home to prepare for the next battle.

Jeremiah 46:17 "They did cry there, `Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.' "

We have seen in the wars that Egypt has played a role in, that there was a lot of noise, threats, but in the end there was no force. The Egyptian army and air force three times gathered its might to go against Israel, and after all the threats, they didn't even get their planes off the ground, nor have the fuel for their tanks. In the conflict with Iran, she lost over one million men, yet the boundary never changed but a few miles. Friend, Egypt will never have any strength until the appointed time of God.

Jeremiah 46:18 "As I live, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come."

God is promising that as long as there are mountains, and fruitful pleasant places, I promise you the king of Babylon is coming. By God swearing by His own word, there can be no more surety.

Look around you, as long as you see a mountain top, or trees that bear fruit, the king of Babylon of Revelation, who is Satan the Antichrist, is coming. Satan is coming and he is coming before the true Christ. That is the way God's Word is written and the way He willed it.

Jeremiah 46:19 "O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant."

This is saying to prepare yourself instruments for transport, or pack your bags for the move.

Jeremiah 46:20 "Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north."

A fair heifer, is very gently and pleasing to his owner. Egypt is like that fair heifer, it is something that can be manipulated. It is not an insult, and a note to her character.

Jeremiah 46:21 "Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation."

Not only are the people ready to turn back and run from the king of Babylon, but even the hired guns, their soldiers. In the futuristic sense, there is no stopping the destiny or plan that God has placed on His children, and the nations of the earth. This chapter is directed to Egypt, and it shall happen as it is written.

Jeremiah 46:22 "The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood."

Have you ever heard the hissing of a serpent? It hisses, then strikes and backs away, and does this over and over against it's prey.

Jeremiah 46:23 "They shall cut down her forest, saith the Lord, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable."

This is looking foreword to the visitation of the locust army, as spoken of by Joel the prophet. That army of fallen angels will come against all mankind, and strip them of everything, including the truth from God's Word. So see from Joel 2:28-32, that at that time the sons and the daughters of God will stand against this army, and the visitation of the false messiah.

We are told in Acts 2 that the tongues that were spoken at Pentecost needed no interpretation but was understood by every one that heard it. People from all over the earth heard in their own language. It was the Holy Spirit that was doing the speaking through those sons and daughters, as they were called up to give witness. They will be the ones to stand against this locust army in the final hour of this earth age. When the people wondered what they were hearing, Peter told them in Acts 2:16; "But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:"

Jeremiah 46:24 "The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north."

Jeremiah 46:25 "The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:"

Jeremiah 46:26 "And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the Lord."

On the day of vengeance God is telling you that it is He that will deliver all mankind that seek to find life, into the hand of Satan. All that is except those that are sealed with the Word of God in their minds, and know the truth. Friend, you will either be sealed on that day, or you will not. If you know in your mind that the first Christ to come and bring a temporary peace is Satan, you will not be deceived by him. But that sealing will come before his arrival, or you will be taken by him instantly.

God is keeping his promise here to Egypt, that even during this time of confusion, and after, she would continue to be inhabited. This is the oldest nation in the world, and God is still promising her that it would continue .

Jeremiah 46:27 "But fear not thou, O My servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid."

Now God is directing His attention to the ten tribes of the house of Israel. The ten tribes that went north through the Caucasus mountains, and fanned out over Europe and the Americas calling themselves Caucasians, and also called the Christian nations of today. This is directed to the United States which is Manasseh, and England that of Ephraim, that stand as the superpower of all nations on both sides of the Atlantic, and includes all Christian nations that is part of that power structure, that we don't have to worry about falling tomorrow.

God has blessed our nations beyond anyone's doubt, that all people of the world can see we are truly the blessed nations of the Abrahamic covenant.

Jeremiah 46:28 "Fear thou not, O Jacob My Servant, saith the Lord: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished."

The motto of our nation is still, "In God we trust", and thank God for His promises. God is promising that when all the nations of the earth shall cease existing, God will still care and protect us. The time of the end of all nations is when they all nations join into one nation. That forming started fifty years ago under the banner of the United Nations.

God is a good Father, and ever father that cars for his children punishes to correct his children. God will apply the balm of soothing only after he make the correction, and that balm in Gilead is the Holy Spirit. It is through His Sprit that we gain wisdom and knowledge. This is an exciting time to live, and know that we have that balm, and can see the promises of God coming true right before our eyes. Is is a real privilege to serve God and knew the truths of his Word.
