Leviticus 14:1 "And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,"

This message dealing with the law of leprosy was delivered to Moses alone; and he was to communicate these regulations to Aaron and his sons, the priests. However these rules governing the law of the plague was to be by the discernment of both Moses and Aaron and the priests. In this manner, Moses as the law giver was upheld and secured, whereby the flow of communication from God went first through Moses, then Aaron, and his sons, and on to the congregation.

These laws were given to Moses about two years after they left Egypt and crossed the Red sea; while the tribes of the children of Israel were camped at the base of mount Sinai. God met Moses and the people and gave them these laws to govern their lives. There would be another thirty eight years before the children of Israel would finally enter into the promise land and set up their nation. In the prior chapter the message was addressed to Moses and Aaron, for the sake of the law, and the priesthood.

Leviticus 14:2 "This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest:"

We will see that the purification of the leper was a two step process. In verses two through eight is the first part, the restoration to other men, for the leper was regarded as dead. In the spiritual area you might think of the leper as being spiritually dead.

When a person had leprosy, they would not actually bring that person into the camp to the priest, so the priest that was brought to the leper. Remember that the leper was unable to do anything on his own, for he was an outcast from the camp of the children of Israel, and in extremely poor state of health.

Leviticus 14:3 "And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper;"

As the priest would go out of the camp to the leper, he would take with him two birds that were alive and clean.

Leviticus 14:4 "Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:"

The "cedar wood" is noted for its antiseptic qualities, it is the tallest of the trees, and the "hyssop" is the lowest of the herb that would give the leper purity. It was believed that because "pride" was the cause of the plague, and then "humility" is the necessary condition for its cure and acceptance back into the covenant nation. So these three were used right along with the "scarlet", or red heifer, as recorded in Numbers 19:6 "And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer."

Leviticus 14:5 "And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water:"

The priest would actually kill the bird and let the blood run into container with running water flowing into it. "Running" water is living water, water that is not stagnant. the "blood" is symbolic of life, while the "water" is symbolic of purification.

For our living water today, we read in John 4:10 "Jesus answered and said unto her, "If thou knewest the gift of God, and Who it is That saith to thee, `Give Me to drink: thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water." That living water is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Leviticus 14:6 "As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water:"

The cedar wood is symbolic of the continuance of life, and the color of scarlet give the strength of vital energy. Then to the hyssop is symbolic of purification. This bird that was killed was symbolic of the person that had the leprosy, however by the grace of God, had the bird not been killed, the leper would have also died and this was representative of that dead bird.

Leviticus 14:7 "And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field."

This then is a stamp of the covenant as well as a readmission into the covenant. the living bird represented the freedom that was given to the leper that was healed of his disease. This cleansing is only with his relationship with other men and women. He still has not be accepted back into a relationship with YHVH our heavenly Father.

Leviticus 14:8 "And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out of his tent seven days."

Once this leper has been declared to be clean, he was to clean all his clothes, and shave off all his hair, even his eye brows. This seven day period before he was restored to the community was for him to get back into the activities of the camp, however this cleansed leper was afraid of defiling himself any further. Just as the woman had to remain separated for a period of time after child birth, so also this leper must keep this time frame for the same reason. He was afraid of defiling himself any more, before he went through the consecration process.

Leviticus 14:9 "But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean."

In verses nine through twenty, this is getting into the second part of the restoration of bringing the leper back to God [YHVH]. Because of this, just as with the priests, it was necessary for the leper to go through a consecration process to regain their rights as being part of the covenant nation.

In verse seven this former leper was declared clean, but that was with respect to other men, where as this cleansing and shaving off of hair is for the sake of the consecration process that he will next go through.

Leviticus 14:10 "And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenths deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil."

Of course "eight" stand for "new beginnings" in biblical numerics. On the eighth day after that seven day waiting period, and this man must take two male year old sheep that are without blemish; and the three tenths deals of fine flour with the oil, for the meat offering. A log of oil is about two thirds of a pint. This oil had not been sanctified yet, for that would be for the priest of do. There are spiritual types to this process that we are reading of here.

"Without blemish" is a type of Jesus Christ, crucified on the cross without blemish. This fine flour was an very pure flour, and not corrupt.

Leviticus 14:11 "And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:"

The door of the tabernacle was the entrance into the tent of the assembly. the leper was unable to do any of this on his own, so it was completely up to the priest to the entire cleansing process. This leper had not been purified yet.

Leviticus 14:12 "And the priest shall take one he lamb, and offer him for a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the Lord:"

The trespass offering and the wave offering was not done together, for this was a consecration offering to God. This was exactly as the Levitical priest had to go through when they were being dedicated to serve the Lord. It is a manner that must be done to resubmit and commit themselves to the service to YHVH, our heavenly Father. The wave offering was simply to take that offering to be offered and wave it toward and away from the holy of holies, to be symbolic of giving these offerings to God.

Leviticus 14:13 "And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy:"

The priest is the one that does the slaying of the animals for the sacrifice in this case. The priest gives this offering not for their own sins, but for the sins of the people. Their portion was to be eaten by the priest, as his part of the offering.

Leviticus 14:14 "And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot:"

This verse that gets into the purification of the leper, is the same as the purification process that Aaron and his sons went through in their consecration to the priesthood; as directed by Moses. This process for consecration was detailed in Leviticus the ninth chapter. the right ear, right thumb and the right big toe was symbolic for the hearing of God's Word; the action of being guided by God's Word; and of course walking in the ways and duties in the service to God's Word.

Leviticus 14:15 "And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand:"

Leviticus 14:16 "And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the Lord:"

The reason for this sprinkling of the oil is that he was consecrating and dedicating the oils for additional use.

Leviticus 14:17 "And the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering:"

The blood of the trespass offering was symbolic of the soul, and the oil was symbolic of the spirit. The priest would take the oil and then cover the blood of the trespass offering, and sin offering with the oil. Sure it was symbolic of the spirit of the man, but also of the Holy Spirit of God, so this would set up the condition where the leper man being consecrated would be able to have the Holy Spirit.

Leviticus 14:18 "And the remnant of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall pour upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the Lord."

The head of the leper was symbolic of the personality of the person. So at this point of the consecration ceremony, the person was reinstated with all the rights of the covenant that God had given to the nation of Israel. It was necessary for the trespass offering to take place first before this person could even go into the sin offering and of course the wave offering of the meat offering. Before this atonement, that former leper did not have the right to do those offerings, because he was an outcast from the covenant nation.

Leviticus 14:19 "This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days."

Remember back in verse ten, this leper that was pronounced clean by the priest was instructed to bring two male sheep [he lambs without blemish] and three tenths of deals of fine flour and oil for a meat offering. So in the first trespass offering that first of the male sheep was killed for the sacrifice, and his blood used in the offering. It was alright to use a female sheep in a sin offering if you were part of the common people; but for the burnt offering it was a requirement that a male sheep was used.

Leviticus 14:20 "And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meat offering upon the altar: and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and he shall be clean."

When these sacrifice offerings are completed the priest would declare that the leper was clean.

Leviticus 14:21 "And if he be poor, and cannot get so much; then he shall take one lamb for a trespass offering to be waved, to make an atonement for him, and one tenth deal of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering, and a log of oil;"

In verses 21 through 32 that we are into now are exact repeats of what we have just read. In this set of verses from verse 21, the leper was not able to afford the two sheep that was required for the trespass and sin offerings from verse ten.

Leviticus 14:22 "And two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering."

Leviticus 14:23 "And he shall bring them on the eighth day for his cleansing unto the priest, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, before the Lord."

Leviticus 14:24 "And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord:"

Leviticus 14:25 "And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot:"

Leviticus 14:26 "And the priest shall pour of the oil into the palm of his own left hand:"

Leviticus 14:27 "And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the Lord:"

Leviticus 14:28 "And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering:"

Leviticus 14:29 "And the rest of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed, to make an atonement for him before the Lord."

Leviticus 14:30 "And he shall offer the one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he can get;"

Leviticus 14:31 "Even such as he is about to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meat offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the Lord."

Leviticus 14:32 "This is the law of him in whom is the plague of leprosy, whose hand is not able to get that which pertaineth to his cleansing."

Leviticus 14:33 "And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,"

God is now speaking to Moses and Aaron concerning leprosy in a house. Think of it, for it is impossible for a house to become affected with leprosy, as we consider what the disease of leprosy is. There will be many symbols in these verses that we must pay attention to.

Leviticus 14:34 " "When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession;"

God is telling Moses and Aaron that they will move into the land of Canaan, and just as I have the ability to give you that land, I have the ability to put the plague of leprosy in a house there also. So this is talking about the blessings for doing it God's ways, and following His laws and commandments, or receiving the cursing from not obeying the laws and commandments of God.

Deuteronomy 28:1, 2 "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:" [1] "And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God." [2]

God then names all the blessings that you can claim for yourself, when you strive and seek to obey God's laws and commandments, and refer His holy name. "Blessed shall be thy cities; blessed shall be thy fields; Thy children; thy flocks; market baskets," and so on. Do you get the picture God is painting for us here? If you respect Him and keep His Word, then the plague of these leprosy items will not fall on your house. In verse eleven; "And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle and in the fruit of thy ground, and so on. It is yours to claim when you obey the Lord.

Deuteronomy 28:14 "And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them."

Deuteronomy 28:15 "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee and over take thee:"

God has given Moses and His people the laws and commandments that are written in this book of Leviticus, and He expects His People to be obedient. These curses that follow verse fifteen, are part of the plague of leprosy that is talked about here in Leviticus 14:33 and on. "Cursed be in thy cities; cursed be in thy fields; in thy market place; in the fruit of thy womb; and so on." These are the directed to those that stray away from the words which God commanded. It is a conditional promise for those that turn their backs on God, and He will keep His promises to these conditions.

So this is a reminder that man not only owed God for their physical bodies, but for all the blessing around our homes that He allow each of us to have. God promised that if you build your house with ill-gotten gains, that He would put the plague of leprosy in your house.

Leviticus 14:35 "And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, `It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house:' "

Psalms 91:9, 10 states to make the Lord thy habitation, and no plague of any type will come near you. "Because thou hast made the Lord, Which is my refuge, Even the Most High, thy habitation;" [9] "There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." [10]

Leviticus 14:36 "Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house:"

So this backs up the fact that this plague is not a contagious leprosy, but some form of mildew. If they removed everything out of the house, those items would also be contaminated. So it is talking about something else.

Leviticus 14:37 "And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the walls;"

The "hollow strakes" are sunken places within the house, and it can be seen that these molds are deep within the walls.

Leviticus 14:38 "Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days:"

This is the same process of shutting up the house for seven day, as was used for garments and for man with leprosy. The point was to see if the mold was spreading or not.

Leviticus 14:39 "And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house;"

If the signs of corruption did appear;

Leviticus 14:40 "Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:"

So if there were stones that the house was built of had the spreading molds, then they would remove those stones to a place outside the city, and rebuild the house.

Leviticus 14:41 "And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place:"

Then after those stones have been removed from the house, the rest of the house must be dusted to remove the rest of the filth. Even the dust has to be taken out of the city.

Leviticus 14:42 "And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house."

Leviticus 14:43 "And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;"

Leviticus 14:44 "Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean."

This "fretting leprosy in the house" means that the corruption is growing from within.

Leviticus 14:45 "And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place."

So if the house in the city is completely corrupted, then that building must be completely removed from the city. The reason that the person that goes into the house when it is shut up for the seven day time period is unclean until the even: That person will bath and wash his clothes then, and made clean physically. Once the priest came any announced the house unclean, then those that entered the house would get the sickness that the house had.

Leviticus 14:46 "Moreover he that goeth into the house all the while that it is shut up shall be unclean until the even."

Leviticus 14:47 "And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes."

If a person either slept or ate in the house, they would also contaminate themselves.

Leviticus 14:48 "And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed."

Leviticus 14:49 "And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:"

This cleansing process then is the same procedure for the purification of the garments and the person that had been a leper. Today this is the same reason that we are to anoint out houses, to keep wickedness and evil things from invading our homes. The process to heal a sick house is the same as what we are to do when a person is sick, or a relationship needs to be anointed.

Leviticus 14:50 "And he shall kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water:"

So we see that this is the same process that was used above in the contamination of the garment and the leper.

Leviticus 14:51 "And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times.:"

Leviticus 14:52 "And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet:"

Leviticus 14:53 "But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an atonement for the house: and it shall be clean."

Leviticus 14:54 "This is the law for all manner of plague of leprosy, and scall,"

Leviticus 14:55 "And for the leprosy of a garment, and of a house,"

Leviticus 14:56 "And for a rising, and for a scab, and for a bright spot:"

Leviticus 14:57 "To teach when it is unclean, and when it is clean: this is the law of leprosy."

We have seen how the things that were unclean had to be removed out of the city, and around the people. However before they were removed, there was a seven day testing period to see if the leprosy had spread, or was staying the same. The testing and the proof that leprosy was not present was the same for the scall, the garment, the house and the bright spot on the person. When it is clear that there is no leprosy, then the priest will declare it so, and if it is unclean, then the priest will declare that it must be removed out of the city.

This is the law of God, and it was given to Moses and Aaron, and you and I to teach us when something is clean or unclean. The law is our schoolmaster unto Christ. Just as God's people were getting ready to enter into their promise land, so also we of this end time generation are preparing to enter into another land of the Millennium age. That land of Canaan was very unclean, and in most cases, the people would be moving right into the houses of the heathen people that occupied the land up to that time. God is preparing the Israelites to prepare themselves for the unclean conditions that they were about to face, so that they would be able to adjust to those events. This is as it will be when we must deal with the spiritual filth that will fill the earth and our land, when Satan the Antichrist comes to earth with his army of fallen angels. We must keep our minds free and sealed against the leprosy of lies and deception that will come pouring forth out of the mouth of Satan.

Revelation 12:16 "And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth."

This flood of lies and deception is not far away, for it will come in our generation.
