Leviticus 2:1 "And when any will offer a meat offering unto the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon:"

This meat offering is a meal offering. The fine flour represented more than just flour, for it was the best that they made. Flour is the key element that bread is made of, and the bread that we read of in the New Testament is representative of God's Word, it is the staff of our spiritual life. We know that the oil that was used in these offerings was "Olive oil", which is the symbol of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The "frankincense" symbolically represents the fact that our prayers go up to God, and that they be acceptable to Him.

"Meat offering", or Meal offering is the "Michah", not necessarily to secure admittance, but to secure favor. It's a gift offering as we read in the 43rd Appendix of the Companion Bible. It might be sacrificed by blood, but more generally and later, it was given without blood. This type of offering was the type used by Cain and Abel, and later by Jacob's present to Esau, as given in Genesis 32:13 - 21. The Meat or meal offering is the only offering that is rendered "meat", or "meal", but it has a wider significance than a literal meal.

Leviticus 2:2 "And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord:"

The person making the offering must bring the olive oil, the fine flour, and the frankincense to the priest, who will reach into the container and grab a handful of the offering. The priest then will burn the hand full of on the altar in the fire, and offer it to the Lord. Notice that the word "offering" as used here, is "ishsheh", which is any offering that is given by fire. The offering in this chapter are not animal sacrifices but food.

Leviticus 2:3 "And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons' : It is a thing most holy of the Lord made by fire."

There are seven types of offerings, with the first three being holy, and the last four offerings are "most holy" The Most holy offerings are the "incense offering"; the "Shewbread offering"; "The trespass offering", and the "meal offering". The trials of Christ were as He were tried by fire while He was here on earth.

Leviticus 2:4 "And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the over, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil."

This "Oblation" is Korban again, the present to gain access to the Lord. By the use of the Word baken, in types, refers to the trials of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This pan was like a large flat pan, and the flour was saturated with the olive oil, then baked on this pan. Of course the "Oil" is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. In other words, in types, the bread or Word of God must be saturated with and by the Holy Spirit.

Leviticus 2:5 "And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil."

Leviticus 2:6 "Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering."

This is talking about bread being a meat offering before the Lord. The breaking of the bread to make this meat offering should call our attention to the breaking of the bread at our communion table.

I Corinthians 11:23, 24 "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took the bread:" [23] "And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, "Take, eat, this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me." [24]

So why do we do this continually even to these end times?

I Corinthians 11:26 "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come."

Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life, and a type of the broken bread that we are reading of here in Leviticus 2:6, that was parted and broken into pieces to complete the meat offering given to the Lord.

Leviticus 2:7 "And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil."

The fine flour with oil is in reference to the perfection that our Lord Jesus Christ was.

Leviticus 2:8 "And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the Lord: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar."

All of the burnt offerings that uses bread, the flour was to be fine, and the bread unleavened.

Leviticus 2:9 "And the priest shall take from the meat offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord."

Remember back in I Corinthians 11:24 "..Take eat, this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me." Our communion service is a memorial service to our Lord, in remembering the sacrifice that He made for you and me individually. This meat offering then is a type of the communion table that we meet at even now to make a memorial to Christ.

Leviticus 2:10 "And that which is left of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the Lord made by fire."

This meat offering with this fine flour and the olive oil, baked in the pan then belongs to the priest that is making the offering.

Leviticus 2:11 "No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the Lord, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the Lord made by fire."

So why did they use leaven and honey in this offering? Leaven and honey have a very fermenting quality, and this points out that there is nothing corrupt about Christ. Leaven will spread through the entire loaf, and in Matthew 16:12 Jesus warned; "Then understood they how that He bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees." It wasn't the leaven in the bread that was gathered up, but the leaven or false doctrine and teachings that crept in where ever you have a large group of people gathering together. We are to become spiritually aware of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And those false doctrines that have crept into many of the church doctrines today go against the Word of God. They are the leaven in the bread, and many teachers have no idea what is happening in these end times. The point to this type is that if a false teaching gets started, it will spread throughout the entire body of the church. Once the fermenting process of false doctrine and man's traditions starts, it corrupts all the area around it.

Leviticus 2:12 "As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the Lord: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour."

The "firstfruits" of the Bible are always symbolic of the "Elect". God is telling us that the firstfruits will not be burnt on the altar, to give a sweet savour to God.

Leviticus 2:13 "And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt."

Salt has always been known to be a sealer, and the way that it is used here is that the salt is the sealer of the covenant of God, and this salt will be present where-ever two shall sit down together in agreement on a contract. The bread and the salt were required to seal the deal. The salt also is a preservative, and some of the offerings would not be eaten for several days after they were presented, and this would allow it to remain edible. Salt also prevents the fermenting process from beginning. So what does Jesus say about salt and the Christian.

Mark 9:49, 50 "For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt." [49] "Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another." [50]

Every one that follows Christ and is true to Him, will be salted with fire, and that fire is the Holy Spirit. The salt in the sacrifice will make a difference to the efforts, and it adds flavor to what is done. Jesus tells us that "salt is good, but if the salt have lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it?" Salt today is very important, and salt is a must in our spiritual life. We are to make a difference where ever God places us to those things and people around us. When you enter into a room, do the people in that room feel the difference of your presence in that room. Do those people see the love and peace of Christ radiate from your life? This should also give you peace of mind in your own life.

Leviticus 2:14 "And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the Lord, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears."

"Green ears" in the Hebrew text is "abiyb", and it is the first ears of corn that appears on the stock, for it is named after the month of Abib, or Nisan that it comes. Remember that the start of the Hebrew calendar starts at the Spring Vernal Equinox, that moment that the sun passes over the equator. This is the start of the new year on the Jewish calendar. The fourteenth day following this time marks the Passover time, that time when the death angel passed over the blood stained of the Hebrew families back in Egypt, and claimed the lives of the firstborn in all Egypt. When Jesus Christ went to the cross, He became our Passover.

Leviticus 2:15 "And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering."

Remember that the olive oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit, and frankincense represents our prayers that go up to the Father in heaven.

Leviticus 2:16 "And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the Lord."

The beaten corn is the same as the baken meal from verse four. It is the Type of the sufferings and trials of the Antitype of Christ, meaning "tried by fire". Jesus Christ received the stripes and we receive the healing.
