Nahum "Yahveh's Attributes Declared" This Bible Study is written by Roger
Christopherson, and made available with written
permission by http://www.theseason.org Remember when Jesus would talk about Capernaum, a city in Galilee? It is mentioned in all the gospels. "Capernaum" comes from the word "Nahum". In Hebrew, "Nahum" means to council or "compassionate." Nahum was a prophet that followed Jonah by 65 to 70 years. Jonah was a prophet that was sent to "Nineveh", which was a heathen center of influence of it's day. Nineveh worshipped the Dagon a fish god, and when Jonah was delivered from the fish's belly, The people of Nineveh knew Jonah had to be from God, so they listened, and were saved. They believed Jonah. So in Nahum, instead of seeing the salvation of Nineveh, we will witness the destruction of Nineveh, some two generations after their fathers repented and God saved them, and their city. Though Nahum is undated, from II Kings 18:26-28 we can put the date about 603 B.C. King Sennacherib of Assyria was on the throne at this time, and he played a type of Antichrist, while Nineveh itself is a sample of how the system of Antichrist will be destroyed, though Nahum is history, it is a prophecy to the end generation. It's time frame is a time just prior to when Christ will return to this earth; at the last trump. This makes Nahum, the prophet, important to us, for his prophecy is directed to the time just prior to when the Antichrist's Kingdom is to end, at the second advent of Jesus Christ. The events of Nineveh are similar to the events of the One World System, near it's end. Nahum 1:1 " The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite." The "burden" is the curse that God will cause to happen to Nineveh. Nahum 1:2 "God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for His enemies." "The LORD revengeth" is given twice for a double witness, and the wise should pay attention. It is directed only to God's enemies. Is this directed to you? Not if your one of God's children, a believer in Jesus Christ. He is not angry at you. He loves you. He is angry at those who plan traps for His people, like the ones who set up and take part in the "New World Order". God is mad because of this false system which is the type of Antichrist who tries to play Lord to God's own children. It's sort of like someone showing up one day, then throws you out and takes over your house; your wife, kids, property and your job. You would be upset, and they would become your enemy. Nahum 1:3 "The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet." Though it takes time, God allows this time to pass so that what He does is complete. Rest assured, the wicked never wins, he will be doomed. "The Lord hath feet , God controls nature and He can use what ever tool He so desires; hail, fire, tornado, what ever He chooses, to take vengeance upon His enemies. Remember, the reason for His anger is toward anyone who is trying to take His place. He is mad at the Antichrist, and His system. Nahum 1:4 " He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers; Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth." All spiritual truth will dry up. There just will not be any. Bashan and Carmel are beautiful places, and places that are pleasing to be around. When you want to see how spiritual truth will exist when the Antichrist walks the earth, and His system is in charge, it's reflected here. Nahum 1:5 "The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at His presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein." If your going to worry, you'll worry here; But some will say, "Don't worry the "Rapture" Will be here first." So Sleep on! The mountains are the nations, and the hills are the peoples of the world. Is the earth going to burn? NO. This tells us that God's truth will not exist, except in the mind's of God's "elect". That truth is the seal that was placed there prior to the coming of the Antichrist, and his herds of fallen angels (Revelation 9:3-5). Every person on this earth, except those with the understanding that the first Christ to come is the Antichrist, will bow to the Antichrist. The death is a spiritual death and the destruction is deception which will cause all to be deceived. Nahum 1:6 " Who can stand before His indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him." The cross reference to the burning of the world is in II Peter 3:10. "But the day of the Lord (Christ return) will come as a thief in the night; In the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements (evil rudiments) shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." This is a type of the three children in the fiery furnace of (Daniel 3:21-25): Shadrack, Meshach, and Abend-nego. This shows us that when God destroys the wicked, believers won't be touched. The "earth" is this earth age, that ends at the seventh, and last trump. You'll be safe right where you are. God will not destroy this earth for we see in (Revelation 21), God's eternal kingdom is on this earth. We can, and will stand through God's indignation upon the "evil elements' of the Antichrist and his system. God is slow to anger, and when He does act, it will not be against His own. This spiritual quaking will take place both in heaven, and on earth. Nahum 1:7 "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him." This is a good verse to strengthen you when your day is full of strife. It's a promise from God to those who love Him. He knows all our problems, and will assist us when the day is tough. You can't con God, He knows. Nahum 1:8 "But with an overrunning flood He will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies." We're back to Nineveh now. God is longsuffering as far as getting at His enemies. The day is coming, and His will shall be done in a massive and complete way according to His word. This wicked age will come to a close, and so will the Antichrist's Kingdom. Nahum 1:9 "What do ye imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time." Who do you think you are to defy God? When God gets through striking His enemy, it will take only one blow and He is finished. When it comes time for Satan to go to the pit, it's over. Satan's power will be finished, and the eyes of mankind will be opened, they will see Satan as he is. He can not do anything that the LORD God doesn't permit. Nahum 1:10 "For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry." "Folden together" is a term meaning woven or entangled together. God is saying this "One World System" being woven together to bring the entire world under the Kenite Satanic, and Godless government, is being done like a bunch of drunkards sewing a basket of thorns. When Christ returns, all these packs of drunkards will be disposed of like setting a torch to a stack of dry straw. Nahum 1:11 "There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor." "Wicked Counsellor" is another name of Satan. Are you going to seek his advice? He is going to claim to be the Messiah, and all words flowing from his mouth are lies and deceptions. He is the one who claims to be Christ. Nahum 1:12 "Thus saith the LORD; "Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through." Though these so called Christians be very quiet and solemn and religious; and though there be a lot of them. They may out number the elect millions to one, in their multitude. God will devour them also like dry stubble in a fire, when Christ returns. * Nahum 1:12 "Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more." Verse 12 continues. This verse should follow Verse 15, for the deeper scholar. This pertains to Judah, But there is no article pertaining to Judah in this place. Nahum 1:13 " For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bounds in sunder." This happens when Christ returns, and removes Satan, his system, and all the bonds that the system holds. You'll be free of all influences of wicked and evil doing. Nahum 1:14 "And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be shown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art vile." The "House of Nineveh" is the type of Antichrist's One World System. Just like King Sennacherib ruled over that world system, The Antichrist has total control given to him by God to rule in this end of the age Kingdom. God's judgment on Nineveh was total and complete in ending that wicked age, thus this is a type (exact type) of the judgment to come upon the entire world at Christ's return. We are living in this final generation, and most people living today will be alive to witness the Antichrist's abominations and His fall. God will make a grave for Satan and all the vile ones that followed him. Nahum 1:15 "Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wick shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off." This event has not happened, and will not happen until Christ's return. "He is utterly cut off", when Satan goes to the pit, and the Millennium starts. Following (verse 15) is where the twelfth verse, relating to O' Judah, and How Jesus Christ will see that His people will be afflicted no more.
