THE PSALMS BOOK 1 Chapter 1 "Man Blessed, Law of YHVH." This Bible Study is is provided by http://www.theseason.org/ and shared with permission from it's author R. Christopherson The term, "the chief musician" in many of the Psalms is "the Giver of victory", which is to say, the Lord Jesus Christ. These Psalms will give you the victory in your every day life. They are the praises to God, how precious the Word of God. Psalms 1:1 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful." "The counsel of the ungodly" that is to say the wicked. "The seat of the scornful" are those who rattle on about how it isn't going to happen. They don't believe that they will see Satan, and they think the bible is nothing more than a book of tales. So why the word, "blessed"? Because God blesses those individuals that sit in His counsels, pay attention to His Word, and set a course for their life that is within Father's way. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Word, He is the way, the truth and the life [eternal life] for all that will follow His way. So this verse is giving you a choice; do you want to be blessed, or do you want to suffer through your life on your own way. You have the choice, give your troubles over to Christ and stay away from the counsel of the ungodly, or continue down that path to destruction with the ungodly counsel. All of the advice that we receive from our Father's Word is given in love for you. He cares for you and your well being. Father wants to be your counsel, and He wants your choice to be His counsel. He looks at you as His child and with the love of a father for his child, for he created you for himself. However in that love, God has given you the right to choose Him or not. Make the wise choice. That is the reason that your blessing will come to you.
Psalms 1:2 "But his delight
is in the law of the Lord; And in His law doth He meditate day and
night."
The reason for the law is not to condemn
you, but for the law to give you a pattern to guide you through all
the trying times in your life. So when you seek counsel, you are
showing that your delight is in the law of the Lord. The 'Law' is
the Word of God, all of it, both Old and New Testament alike.
Jesus didn't come to change the law, but to fulfill the law. Matthew
5:17; "Think not that I have come to destroy the law, or the
prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." Jesus
fulfilled all those requirement under the law that required blood
sacrifices for the atonement or covering for our sins. That is why
we pray in Jesus name, for in His name we identify that we believe
and accept the power and authority of Jesus as the Son of God, the
promised Redeemer, who put our sins under His shed blood.
Matthew 5:18 "For verily I say unto
you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no
wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." That isn't too
hard to understand; in that heaven and earth have not passed away.
It is quite obvious that this verse is still in effect. So if
the law is still in effect, then God's 'delight is in the law of the
Lord' that He has given to us. So to find favor with Father, we must
show delight in what He delights in to be able to receive the
blessing that Father wants to shower upon us.
If your earthly father likes to go
fishing, and you want a special favor from Dad, don't you think a
fishing trip would be in line to get Dad to focus on what you want?
It would do you good. Now the law is what He continually and
habitually meditates on day and night. Father takes delight in those
that follow and trust His law. We learn to live our lives as
Father wants us to live, and that brings happiness to our life.
No the law is not here to condemn you, but to show you where the
problems of life come from. It becomes the guide for your life
as you stumble through your life
Psalms 1:3 "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." A leaf that does not wither is eternal. This is why God used the Fir tree in Hosea 14:8, because He is eternal. If you are in Him, you have eternal life. When you take the counsel of our heavenly Father and strive to follow that set of instruction, God will shower your life with His blessings. Remember what Father said in Psalms 1:1; "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly". If you want to be like a tree planted by the rivers of water and bring forth fruit in season, and be blessed by Him, then you have to do it Father's way. There is only one way, not the many ways of the world. Jesus told us that way in John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, But by Me." Jesus is the Word that was made flesh and dwelt amongst us in the flesh. He came for one purpose, and that was to pay the only price to bring the sinful man back to the Father. Only He could do it. Jesus Christ lived the only perfect life in the flesh. He went through every type of temptation that we could go through and did not sin. This made Him the only eligible person who could be sacrificed for the sins of all those that would receive His gift of making you "a tree planted by the rivers of God's living waters". The fountain of living waters is Jesus Christ. We could go on and on meditating on the meaning of these verses, and the promises that are contained within each verse. A tree planted in a garden did not get there by accident, but it was selected for the purpose it was to serve. The soil was prepared with the right nutrients, then it was placed and staked, and watered to give it healthy life. God planted you in His garden and placed you where you are for His purpose. We are to serve Him exactly where we are planted, and give the fruit that Father expects from each of His trees. A tree doesn't just give off fruit immediately, but it grows and becomes mature and then gives off good fruit. We are to prepare ourselves and grow and mature in His Word, all of it, to the point to where our fruit is good and reliable, not full of holes for the worms of this world's traditions. The fruit comes "in His season", not out of season. You test the fruit to see if it is good. You plant the seeds of truth, and God's Spirit does the watering and the convicting, and then comes the maturing and harvest. Your season for producing good fruit, is the time that God would have it in your life. The season for your tree may not be the same for the tree next to you. Look around you, one apple tree is set to mature at one month yet another apple tree may not mature for several months later. Your duty is to mature in the word, and produce the fruit that is set for your tree, and be faithful in what you do. God gives you the gifts to do what you do, the seed to be planted, but you have to do the planting of that seed. That determines whether you are the good and faithful servant, to enter into the presence of the Lord. You must follow His plan and be patient in what you do. Then God blesses you.
Psalms 1:4 "The ungodly are
not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away."
You can pay two hundred bucks per hour
to find counsel in this world, but you will not find the wisdom of
God there, for there is no firm foundation in the words that the
world gives. People seek after happiness in all sorts of
things. They seek it in man made things and devices, but those
things are of man, they are like the chaff that blows away when a
small wind comes up. You just cannot buy happiness, for it is
not something you can obtain monetarily. So where is it?
Happiness is in your heavenly Father's Word. Father is the
creator of all things, including you. He knows how to bring
you peace and happiness when you are seeking it. If you seek
happiness, seek the Word of God. By seeking His truth and
rightly dividing each verse, and searching the Scriptures with the
proper tools, you will find peace and happiness waiting for you.
Always remember; the ungodly will never prosper you, but will lead
you right into Satan's camp.
Psalms 1:5 "Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. "The judgment"
refers to the rewards that we receive at the first resurrection. The
ungodly will not be there for any rewards at the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ. This is when we put on our incorruptible bodies that we
shall have through all eternity. Those who did not overcome will have no part in the first resurrection. Grace is not offered to them, but if they are saved it will be by their works as outlined in Revelation 20:11-15. By their work out of the Millennium age of Jesus Christ's kingdom. For by then they will have earned the right "by their works" from that thousand year period to take part in the "second resurrection" and have immortality for their soul. Revelation 20:11 "And I saw a great white throne, and Him That sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them." Here we see the great white throne of judgment which comes after this age of the flesh and also after the thousand year millennium kingdom of Jesus Christ right here on earth. This is the final judgment. Revelation 20:12 "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." The book of life is for the righteous of this earth age that have washed their robes in the blood of Christ through repentance. The book of life possesses their names. The books are opened here are at the final judgment and are judging each person [soul] by their works only as recorded through out the millennium age. Revelation 20:14 "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire, This is the second death." Revelation 20:15 "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Presently, we are all in the flesh, we are all sinners, who must be saved by grace only. However, this verse points to a time when there will be no sin. Sinners will be completely done away with in the lake of fire. Even the memory of them will be erased from the mind of their loved ones. This is the eternity. Some day you will not be a sinner, but as long as you are in the flesh you will continue to sin. For that we have repentance. Don't ever let somebody tell you different. That is why our root must always be in Christ, for He forgives us on repentance. Psalms 1:6 "For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish." Sure the Lord knoweth the way
of the righteous, for He is the one that gave us that way. He told
us "I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh to
the Father but by Me." That is the way of righteousness.
This word "perish" will come at the end of this
earth age, and following judgment, as we read above under Revelation
20:15, the ungodly will be cast into the lake of fire and done
away with. Those souls that end up there will never again exist in
any form. For ever and ever the souls of the ungodly will be and
remain ashes; wiped from the minds of the righteous. This concludes
the first Psalm. _______________________________________________________________________________________
