A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-Sheba. This is talked about in Second Samuel 12. David allowed lust to take over his mind when he observed Bath-Sheba bathing on an adjacent rooftop. He sent for her and made love to her, another man's wife and she conceived. Then to get Bath-Sheba for his own, He sent Uriah the husband to the war front and plotted to kill him in battle. Because of Uriah's love for David his king, he never gave a second thought of giving his life for his king. It was an honor to give his life for his king. After that birth of this child, God took the child and this tore at David's heart. David pleaded, wept and tried to get God to change his mind and save this child. Once the child died David picked himself up off the ground, and realized the sin that he had committed. David then got right with God, and had a changed heart. All of us sin at times, for that is the sin nature within us. However when we do, God still loves us, and He wants us to come to Him in repentance. When you sin, don't let that throw you to the point of neglecting to go to Him in repentance. Remember the subjects from the prior chapter, "confession and repentance", and that is why the price on the cross was paid for you. Psalms 51:1 "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions." Sure, once David realized the sin that he had committed, He wanted them blotted out. Uriah would be on his mind for the rest of his life, and the loss of that child that was taken from him. Psalms 51:2 "Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin." "Wash" as used here in the Hebrew text is "kabas", and it is used as you would wash a garment, completely submerged and cleansed over and over. To cleanse so thoroughly that not a trace of that iniquity will remain. David wanted to be pure, and in a sense is looking forward to the time when the shed blood of Christ would complete take away sin. Psalms 51:3 "For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me." This verse is David's confession. The confession must come before the repentance. You don't have to confess them to any man, but you must confess them to almighty Father YHVH. Jesus paid the price for our sins, and He is the only way, and that is why we must confess our sins in the name of Jesus. You might as well confess those hidden thing anyway, for our heavenly Father already knows your sins. He knew the intent of your heart as you were thinking the thoughts; you just can't hide anything from God. Of course with confession come your repentance and a changed heart and a clean slate before the throne of God. Psalms 51:4 "Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Thy sight: That Thou mightest be justified when Thou speakest, And be clear when Thou judgest." "That Thou mightest be justified when Thou speakest, and be clear with Thou judgest" is brought out in Romans 3:4, and it states that God and His judgments are perfect. Romans 3:4 "God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar: as it is written, "That Thou mightest be justified in Thy sayings, and mightest overcome when Thou art judged." Man's thoughts are impure, but the thoughts of God are always pure and justified or correct. God will never make a mistake when He is judging you, and if ever you think that God is not right or just in something, watch out, for it is in your mind where the confusion exists. This is a guarantee that God never makes a mistake. Psalms 51:5 "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me." I was born in the flesh and in sin was I conceived. Flesh is sin, and as long as you are in the flesh you will sin. You will always have a struggle between the flesh nature and your soul. Psalms 51:6 "Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward parts: And in the hidden part Thou shalt make me to know wisdom." The Lord desires your confession and repentance and it comes from yuou inward parts, your mind and conscience. When you see the truths from God's Word, you receive wisdom. You first seek the truths from God's Word, and with that knowledge and instruction, the Spirit of God gives you wisdom. The ability to think for yourself using the instruction and knowledge from God's Word is wisdom. All wisdom comes from God. However you must face the fact and reality head on, or you are being foolish. Sure, your flesh will sin, but you should know the truth of what you have done in sinning when that time comes and seek forgiveness. Psalms 51:7 "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." Again this is looking forward a thousand years, to the coming and sacrifice of the blood of the Messiah. Psalms 51:8 "Make me to hear joy and gladness; That the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice." David is pleading for Father to bring him out of this state of depression that holds him down. He wants his soul to find peace and joy again. Psalms 51:9 "Hide Thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities." Blot out my sins, O Lord, and erase them from my mind. Our heavenly Father will do that when you confess and repent of your sins in Jesus' name. Don't hang on to them, for that is what guilt is, your hanging on to your sins. When you confess them, release them, for Father has said that they will be blotted out for all times. Psalms 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me." "Create" in the Hebrew text is "bard", and it makes the old heart nonexistent, for the new heart is not a make over of the old, but an entirely new heart. The heart is your mind, and what causes you to think and do what you do. David doesn't want a make over of those old thoughts, but a newly created mind, one begotten by and from God. John 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." John 3:7 "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:8 "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearst the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whether it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." It seams that when we fall to sin, and we come to see what we have done, the first thing we think of is Why did I do that. We ask God for forgiveness and a new mind, on that will not repeat the sins that we have done, one that doesn't wish to do wrong. Psalms 51:11 "Cast me not away from Thy presence; And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me." God will not take his Holy Spirit from you once you have brought that marriage between your spirit and the Holy Spirit, for only you can drive the Holy Spirit from you. Psalms 51:12 "Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; And uphold me with Thy free spirit." David is asking God to make his spirit want to obey Him through God's Spirit. Put that desire within me to always want to obey you. Remove these thoughts of sin from my mind and cleanse me and help me stay focused on your and your way. Because we have a flesh heart and mind, there are so many distractions in this world to cause us to stray from that path. Sure we will wish to do good, but as long as we are in these flesh bodies, we will fall short. But God knows that, and seeks to keep you close to Him. Psalms 51:13 "Then will I teach transgressors Thy ways; And sinners shall be converted unto Thee." Lord give me the mind that will not turn away, and help me be a witness for you. Psalms 51:14 "Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation: And my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness." David was saying, Deliver me from the guilt from the blood of Uriah. Because of that murdering of Uriah, God forbid David to build His temple because he had shed Uriah's blood in murder. That duty would fall on Solomon his son. This was not the blood that David had shed on the battlefield, no, but that shed blood of a preplanned homicide. David was instructed to shed the blood of the giant Goliath, or take the lives of those soldiers on the battle field that came against Israel. Killing in battle is done in an honorable way, and God would not punish David for that. No that sin of Uriah is the one that prevented David from building God's temple. However in a prophetic sense, we also must not be taken in spiritual adultery when we see the desires of that false king that shall come very shortly, for he will be Satan, the false Christ. We are to stay clean and not take part in that wedding, and remain virgins for our true husband, Jesus Christ and his coming. When Satan does come, we want God's Spirit to open our minds to the truth, that we not be deceived at that hour. Psalms 51:15 "O Lord, open Thou my lips; And my mouth shall shew forth Thy praise." Psalms 51:16 "For Thu desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: Thou delightest not in burnt offering." You see, our God wants your love, not the blood of goats and sheep. He wants your devotion to Him. That love you have for Him is the only offering that you can give to Him. Psalms 51:17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise." We can see both David's repentance and his love for YHVH Father here. Psalms 51:18 "Do good in Thy good pleasure unto Zion: Build Thou the walls of Jerusalem." David is now praying for the Millennium to come, that day when Jesus will be here with us, and the walls of Jerusalem will be rebuilt. There will be constant troubles in Jerusalem until that time, and it comes after the return of Satan in his role as the Antichrist at the sixth trump, but at the sounding for the seventh trumpet. Then Jesus will return and all evil will be destroyed. Psalms 51:19 "Then shalt Thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: Then shall they offer bullocks upon Thine altar." "To the chief Musician." This time when your heart will be right, and these flesh bodies will be done away with. All will be changed into their incorruptible bodies, and all will live for the next thousand years without the weight of these flesh bodies and their sinning thoughts. We will receive that new heart in that new spiritual body then. This next Psalm takes this thought and goes deeper into that train of thought. ____________________________________________________________________________ ©2006 http://www.theseason.org PLEASE NOTE:
