THE PSALMS Chapter 85 "Prayer for the Land of the Sanctuary." "A Psalm for the Sons of Korah." This Bible Study is is provided by http://www.theseason.org/ and shared with permission from it's author R. Christopherson Korah's sons have seen the grace of the living God, but Korah was given death by divine judgment. Though Korah's life was taken for his wickedness, God spared his sons and they were saved by the grace of God. The judgment that came upon Korah, and the grace given to his sons are spoken of in Numbers 26:11, and Numbers 16. This Psalm is written in the future tense, and there is no part that deals with history, and that has confused some of the scholars in their writings. However in the Prophetic sense there is no confusion. Remember we discussed in other chapters that God would be speaking in a parable of those things that are hidden to those without spiritual eyes to see these truths. However it is not hidden from you when you get into our Father's Word with the tools to reveal those hidden truths. So by God's divine judgment you can be taken, or by the grace of God you can be saved. In the end, it is your choice as to what it shall be. Sure we all fall short of the standard in our lives, yet since the price has been paid by our Lord Jesus Christ, in repentance we have God's grace. Through repentance our hearts are changed and we are drawn back into our Father service, then it becomes time to study God's Word to become skilled in His His Way. Psalms 85:1 "Lord, Thou hast been favourable unto Thy land: Thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob." In that Jacob is used here, it address all the natural seed of Israel, even in the flesh. There is only one time that this will occur, when all the ten tribes will be brought together as a unit, and that time is in the Millennium age of Jesus' thousand year kingdom right here on earth. That time follows the seventh trump, when Jesus Christ returns to earth, and we are all changed into our spiritual bodies that we will be in through that period of time. Notice that the favor that God is giving, is not to the people, but to the land. Remember that all the people except for God's elect, those sealed in their minds and hearts with the truth and that stood against Satan, will have become part of Satan's system and work. In Ezekiel 16 God used a parable of a young unclean girl from birth, to compare his love for the city of Jerusalem. Jerusalem was born as a Jebusite city, from a heathen and unclean nation. It was captured and cleansed by David, and God took and adopted the city as His own, and to show His love for the city, God made a contract, a marriage contract with the city, to show His eternal love for Jerusalem. God made an eternal, everlasting covenant with that location of land that will continue on into the eternity. That is God's favorite spot on all the earth. This is why Jerusalem holds the key to understanding prophecy of the end times, for God is dealing with its people and with it's surroundings. So these people of Jacob, also called the house of Judah and the house of Israel are taken captive. This means that each of these people of Israel's ten tribes will be held in the love of God, and brought back together as one people, one nation, on God's favorite land in Israel and Jerusalem. This is not something to dread, but something to find joy in. Psalms 85:2 "Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of Thy People, Thou hast covered all their sin. Selah. Of course this would be prophecy at the time that this chapter was written, for that iniquity of His People could only be forgiven after the price had been paid by our Lord Jesus Christ at the cross. Then after the price had been paid, through repentance in Jesus' name, God can and will forgive all those who have repented. The shed blood of Christ covered all the sins of not only His People of Jacob, but of all those that will repent and believe on His name. By using the name of Jesus you recognize; What Jesus has done; Why the price had to be paid; Who did the killing on the cross, and where the blood was shed for the sins of those that would repent. You understand that all people have sinned and come short of the standard God has set, and that you were separated from God by your sins. In that sinful condition the soul deserved death. You believe as prophesied, the son of God was born through the womb of the Virgin Mary, lived his life without sin, and that made him the perfect sacrificial Lamb to pay the price. Hebrews 2:14 -16 speaks of the reason for Jesus flesh and blood birth. Jesus died at the hands of the Kenite Jews, that plotted His murder, was laid in the tomb of the rich man, Joseph of Arimathaea, as written in Matthew 27:57. He went to minister to those souls held in bondage that died prior to that time as written of in First Peter 3:19, 20, and Then on the third day arose and came out of that tomb victorious. This joyful time is written in Luke 24.1-16, with our Lord's instructions following. On the forth day after His resurrection Acts 1 records Jesus' ascended into heaven to be at the right hand of the Father as our our intercessor before the throne of God. All this is what you believe when you pray "in Jesus' name". Then ten days after Jesus' ascension into heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to lead and comfort those that would confess, repent and believe on Him. John 14:26 "But the Comforter, Which is the Holy Ghost [Spirit], Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." The amazing part is that every detail of Jesus life was prophesied in the Old Testament, and it all happened just as the prophets said that it would. The word is precious. John 15:25 "But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, "They hated me without a cause"." John 15:26, 27 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, Which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of Me: And ye also shall bear witness because ye have been with me from the beginning." Then we have "Selah". Pause and think on what has been said. The world will be in a complete peace during this time of the Millennium age of Christ's kingdom, not as it is today. That is how it shall be as He gathers His people back there again. So this Selah connects the forgiveness of the Father for each of those that will repent in the millennium age, as being the basis of the Millennial blessing; it will become a reality. It is coming and it is going to happen, more than likely to this generation, as the Jews have return to Jerusalem, and the signs of the end times are all around us today. Psalms 85:3 "Thou hast taken away all Thy wrath: Thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thy anger." This only happens one time, and that is when Jesus return, and we have entered into the Millennium age. Of course this is after the events of Ezekiel 38, and 39, when Russia [Esau] and her allies are destroyed on the last day of this earth age. After that day even Russia will recognize Jesus as the supreme being, and they will confess that there is a God. This event sets the time in a prophetic sense, for it is after God's anger takes place. Psalms 85:4 "Turn us, O God of our salvation, And cause Thine anger to all generations?" There is only one time that this shall happen, and that is written of in Revelation 20:11-15. This is following the Great white throne judgment where those that were given a chance in the Millennium age, still turned to follow Satan, right into the hell's fire. We know from Revelation 21 that even the remembrance of those that followed Satan will be wiped from the minds of their loved ones, as the full Godhead returns to earth for the eternity. What a joyful time that shall be. Take a moment and read Revelation 21, that time when the old heaven and the old earth are passed away and will be no more, and the Holy City, Jerusalem comes down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Then God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there will be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying nor pain. Yes, even the thought of those loved ones that refused our Lord's Salvation will be turned to ashes, and their memory wiped clean from the slates of our minds. We will be in the eternity. That final anger is following the Judgment seat of our Heavenly Father. This is the time this chapter of Psalms is speaking of. Psalms 85:5 "Wilt Thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt Thou draw out Thine anger to all generations?" Of course God will not be angry with His Children for ever. We know that He will not from the prior verses of this chapter, and from Revelation 21. God's anger will be no more against His People or anyone. Remember that this is after the great white throne judgment and Satan and all his followers will be turned to ashes, and the memories of them will be completely blotted out of the minds of their loved ones. Psalms 85:6 "Wilt Thou not revive us again: That Thy people may rejoice in Thee?" A Christian knows and believes the entire Word of God, with all the truths, promises made by God, but within these verses shows doubt and question of these matters. However, with the promise of the Millennium, it is not for us to worry over the answer to these questions. Psalms 85:7 "Shew us Thy mercy, O Lord, And grant us Thy salvation." The way that our Lord Jesus Christ did show us His mercy, and granted us His salvation was by come into this world age, born of a Virgin, living His perfect life, then offering it as a sacrifice for one and all times. Through that sacrifice our Salvation is granted to all those who through repentance will believe on His name. Psalms 85:8 "I will hear what God the Lord will speak: For He will speak peace unto His people and to His saints: But let them not turn again to folly." God will speak peace unto those under My grace. This is a command to study and listen to those Word of God, and learn to hear His voice when He leads you. You hear Him speak as you study His Word, and the Holy Spirit directs your thought in your study. So what does God speak? He speaks words of peace and comfort to your soul. God speaks only peace to His saints, His election, as He directs them. If you take pleasure in getting out of God's path, or way, then God brings correction into your life. Then stay away from those things that bring folly into your life. Psalms 85:9 "Surely His salvation is nigh them that fear [revere] Him: That glory may dwell in our land." It is a fact that God's salvation is offered to every soul that will revere Him. You don't have to fear our Heavenly Father at any time. "That glory may dwell", and that glory is the "Shekinah" glory our our Father that shall fill the land of the people of God. In the Hebrew tongue, "Shekinah" simply means that "God is present in the land". This is the same land spoken of at the beginning of this chapter. It is Jacob's land; the land of those ten tribes that call themselves "the sons of the living God", as recorded in Hosea 1:10. That place is where all the world will worship in the very near future. This again allows us to know that this chapter is written for the time of the Millennium age, following the seventh trumpet when our Lord returns to earth. Psalms 85:10 "Mercy and truth are met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other." Mercy and truth come together with no hardships in-between. Satan has been removed, as well as that entire realm of Satan's system. Satan is in the pit, his 7000 fallen angels are in their place of holding, and all those things of merchandising that made up his system is gone and just doesn't exist. True Righteousness and peace covers the entire earth, for we are in the Millennium and not this earth age of the flesh. The truths of God's Word are instilled in every mind, and people just don't need to ask their neighbor what is right or wrong, they know it. God put it in their minds. Psalms 85:11 "Truth shall spring out of the earth; And righteousness shall look down from heaven." This is talking of the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father. This truth and righteousness will spring right from nature itself. This is speaking of the land and what is produced on it. Psalms 85:12 "Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; And our land shall yield her increase." This time is coming, for in that Millennium age you will not need Chemicals to bring a good crop, the land will give forth that crop in full. The fields will not be over-run in weeds, and in time grow barren. No, "Our land shall yield her increase", and this is a promise of God. Psalms 85:13 "Righteousness shall go before Him; And shall set us in the way of His steps." It will be Christ's footsteps that shall set the path for us in righteousness. This is saying that if you will follow the way that Christ set for us to follow, in His teachings and gospel then you will not find righteousness a hard path to follow. Life will be more enjoyable for both you and your family and those around you, even today. _______________________________________________________________________________________
